On April 25-26, 2024, the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Universitas Brawijaya (FFMS UB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Si., along with Prof. Dr. Ir. Happy Nursyam, M.S., as the advisor of the ASEAN FEN board members, visited Hokkaido University in Hakodate, Japan, to participate in a meeting with other ASEAN FEN board members. ASEAN FEN (ASEAN Fisheries Education Network) is an association forum for fisheries higher education institutions across the ASEAN region, with additional membership from Japan, Korea, and China.

The meeting was attended by ASEAN FEN board members and served as a crucial starting point for determining the schedule of the ASEAN FEN Conference, which will take place from November 19 to 21, 2024, at Hokkaido University, Japan. During the meeting, various aspects related to the conference, including its execution, location, program rundown, as well as tour and exhibition agendas, were comprehensively discussed.

Moreover, the meeting provided a platform for fostering collaboration among universities and member countries of ASEAN, Japan, Korea, and China. Discussions went beyond conference logistics and also explored long-term cooperation in terms of university networks, double degree programs for master’s and doctoral levels, and research collaboration.

Through close cooperation between ASEAN FEN board members and relevant stakeholders, significant collaborations have been developed, including double degree programs for master’s and doctoral levels, as well as promising research partnership opportunities.

The ASEAN FEN council meeting in Hokkaido on April 25-26, 2024, marks a significant milestone in strengthening relationships among higher education institutions in the field of fisheries and paves the way for broader collaboration in the future.
