On Monday, June 24 2024, the Fisheries Resources Utilization Study Program, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FFMS UB) held a guest lecture featuring Professor Matsuishi Takashi Fritz from the Faculty of Fisheries Science, Hokkaido University, Japan. This event began with an opening ceremony which was attended by the deans of FFMS UB and study program leaders.
After the opening ceremony, the activity continued with a presentation of material by Professor Fritz. This guest lecture was guided by M. Arif Rahman, S.Pi., M.App. Sc and attended by lecturers, postgraduate students, and students from the Fisheries Resource Utilization Study Program. This event was held in a hybrid format in the FFMS UB Exhibition Room and also via Zoom Meeting.
In his presentation, Professor Fritz discussed various important topics, including the condition of capture fisheries globally and in Asia, fisheries management, fisheries regulations in Japan, as well as the contribution of sustainable fisheries to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also recommended that participants who are interested in exploring this field access “The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture” published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
This guest lecture activity received a positive response and provided new insights for students. Through this event, it is hoped that it will open up opportunities for FFMS UB academics to establish communication with other experts in the field of fisheries resource utilization, especially from Hokkaido University.
