On Thursday, 20 June 2024, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FFMS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) hosted the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with FPIK Mulawarman University (UNMUL) Samarinda, East Kalimantan. The event which took place on the second floor of the FFMS UB Main Building was attended by delegates from UNMUL, including the Dean of FPIK UNMUL, Dr. Ir. Komsanah Sukarti, MP., Chair of LP3M Prof. Dr. Hamdi Mayulu, as well as several leaders and representatives from various study programs at UNMUL.

The visit and comparative study from UNMUL was warmly welcomed by the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs of FFMS UB, Prof. Dr. Sc. Asep Awaludin Prihanto, S.Pi., MP., together with other leaders and representatives from FPIK UB. In his speech, Prof. Asep welcomed the UNMUL delegation and appreciated their presence. He hopes that this visit will produce many positive things that will mutually inspire and enrich knowledge between the two universities.

Dean of FPIK UNMUL, Dr. Ir. Komsanah Sukarti, MP., explained that the main purpose of this visit was to conduct a comparative study or benchmarking. FFMS UB was chosen because all study programs at the faculty have been accredited as superior, while at FPIK UNMUL they are still between good and A accreditation levels. Currently, FPIK UNMUL has six study programs, consisting of five undergraduate programs and one master’s program. Dr. Komsanah also highlighted the challenge of declining interest in prospective students towards FFMS nationally, including at UNMUL, which is the focus of attention for improvement.

On this occasion, experts and competent in their fields from FFMS UB were also present to provide further information to the UNMUL delegation regarding FFMS UB. A question and answer session was also held, allowing UNMUL delegates to get in-depth information about the facilities and study programs at FFMS UB.

It is hoped that this visit can strengthen cooperation between FPIK UNMUL and FFMS UB in improving the quality of education and research in the field of fisheries and marine science. [ALF/YFS]
