On July 9, 2024, an important meeting was held at Tanjung Priuk Port, Jakarta, involving the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FFMS UB), the OceanX Research Vessel, and the Tanoto Foundation. The FFMS UB delegation was led by Ade Yamindago, S.Kel., M.Sc., Ph.D., as the Head of the Marine Science Study Program. The purpose of this meeting was to explore in-depth research collaborations in various crucial fields such as Deep Sea Oceanography Biology, Micro and Macroorganism Biodiversity, and Bathymetric Mapping and Marine Geology.
The OceanX ship is scheduled to conduct a research expedition in Indonesian waters, with one of its main activities being the Young Explorers Program which will take place on 4-10 August 2024 in Central Indonesian Waters. A student of the Marine Science Study Program, FFMS UB, Raida Aufa Aleidakanaya, will participate in this program to enrich her learning experience through direct research in the field.
OceanX Research Vessel (OceanXplorer), an advanced maritime research vessel operated by OceanX, is a vessel equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as a scientific laboratory, media production studio, helicopter, and remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) and submersibles that can carry humans to the depths of the ocean. The primary purpose of OceanXplorer is to support scientific research on marine ecosystems, map the seafloor, study marine life, and document these findings through media production to raise public awareness of the importance of the ocean to life on Earth. The vessel frequently collaborates with various research institutions and educational institutions in its exploration missions. [ALF/YFS]
