
Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Brawijaya University (FPIK UB) through the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources Utilization (PSPK) held a meeting with the Fr. M. Vianney Zoology Museum, BHK. The meeting, which took place in the PSPK Department Meeting Room, fifth floor of FPIK UB, aimed to strengthen collaboration in educational and research activities.
Present at the meeting were the Head of the PSPK Department of FPIK UB, Feni Iranawati, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Marine Science Study Program (IK), Ade Yamindago, S.Kel., MP, M.Sc., Ph.D., and PIC MBKM Marine Science Study Program, Desy Setyoningrum, S.Kel., MP Meanwhile, from the Zoology Museum, Curator and Educator Irwantor Balsultor Fakdawer, S.Kel., Conservator Hasanudin, and administrative staff Iin Rosida were also present.
Head of the IK Study Program, Ade Yamindago, appreciated the visit of the Zoology Museum team and emphasized that this meeting was a follow-up to previous collaborations. One form of collaboration that has been carried out is the Marine Zoology Practicum. In the future, this collaboration is expected to be expanded in the form of the Independent Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) program, Field Work Practice (PKL) and Thesis Research, in order to equip students with species identification skills that are relevant to the field of marine science.
The curator of the Zoology Museum, Irwantor Balsultor Fakdawer, who is also an alumnus of FPIK UB class of 2014, welcomed this initiative. He stated that the Zoology Museum is ready to expand its collaboration with FPIK UB. Since its establishment in 1985 and opened to the public in 2004, the museum has become a center for marine science education and development. The museum also collaborates with the East Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA Jatim) and is the only museum in East Java that has a gastropod collection, with 75% of specimens coming from marine habitats. In addition, the museum also has a collection of other preserved animals, including tigers.
This meeting is a strategic step for both parties in strengthening academic and research synergy. It is hoped that this collaboration can increase opportunities for students to gain practical experience that supports their competence in the field of marine science. [ALF]
