FFMS UB is conducting the Community Service-Thematic Program (KKN-Tematik) to help some villages in coastal areas developing their potential. This year, 719 FFMS UB students participated in this activity. They are consisting of regular community service program in coastal areas of Pasuruan and community service expedition team in Pulau Saseel, Sumenep. For 3 weeks, the students will help the villages to make village maps, as well as data collecting of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM). The students release activity was held on Sunday, 24 July 2022 at the FFMS Campus. In his welcoming speech, the head of FFMS UB KKNT, Ir. Sukandar, MP, said that this activities have special goals. They are geospatial-based village map creation, as well as the data collection of UMKM profiles in KKNT villages. A total of 692 students from 6 study programs in FFMS will be placed in coastal villages and villages in Kabupaten and Kota Pasuruan, consisting of 490 students in 17 coastal villages in Kabupaten Pasuruan, and 202 students serving in 7 coastal villages in Kota Pasuruan. In addition, there are 16 Fisheries Resouce Utilization Study Program students serving in Saseel Island, Sumenep Regency, who are part of the “Kampestan Social Scientific Expedition Vol.5, 5 Pulau Saseel-Sapeken Expedition”.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FFMS UB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Si, said that this activity during the MBKM era are in line with the goal of producing students or alumni with multi competencies. Community service is also a lesson for students to communicate and interact both with the team and with the community. Community service students are representatives of UB institutions that must maintain the good name of the campus, in order to achieve the highest goal of education, namely as scholars who are beneficial to the community.
