History of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences The University of Brawijaya originated from the College of Marine Fisheries Department, founded on 28 October 1962 by the Probolinggo Education Foundation. Since May 25, 1963, through the Ministerial Decree No. PTIP. 163 Year 1963, University of Marine Fisheries Department became one of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Faculty (FKHP) Universitas Brawijaya based in Malang. While the Department of Marine Fisheries still remain domiciled in Probolinggo. At the end of 1970, FKHP Universitas Brawijaya has a new department of Veterinary School based in Surabaya. Thus FKHP Universitas Brawijaya has three departments, namely Animal Husbandry, Marine Fishery and Veterinary Medicine. Then in August 1972, the Department of Veterinary Medicine merged with Airlangga University in Surabaya, while the Department of Fisheries turned into the Department of Fisheries. In order to facilitate the management and development, then since 1972 also the Department of Fisheries gradually transferred to Malang. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 0220/0/1973, since January 1, 1973 FKHP was changed to Faculty of Animal Husbandry (FAPET) based on the Rector Decree No. 51 / SK / 1977 has two departments, namely: Livestock and Fisheries. Since July 5, 1977, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry was changed to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.

Further Developments...

Based on Government Regulation no. 27 of 1982 and Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 59 of 1982 on Organizational Structure of Brawijaya University, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries into two Faculties, namely Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Faculty of Fisheries.

Based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0174/0/1983 on the arrangement of the Department at the Faculty of the University / Institut Negeri and the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Department of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. 118 / Dikti / 1984 on the type and number of Study Programs in each Department at the Faculty of Brawijaya University, the Faculty of Fisheries is set to have one department namely: Department of Management of Water Resources by supervising three study programs, namely:

Fishery Resources Management Study Program (MSP)

Fishery Products Processing Study Program (PHP)
Fisheries Socio Economic Study Program (SEP)
The other two study programs are Aquaculture Study Program (BP) and Fishery Resources Utilization Study Program (PSP) (MPI) held pending approval. In 1995 Faculty of Fisheries Universitas Brawijaya established Diploma Program (D-IIl) of Fishery Agribusiness. Then in 1996 stood again Diploma Program (D-III) Nautika, but since 1999 did not accept students. Along with the increasing need of middle experts in the field of fisheries and marine, then in the year 2009 Education Program Experts (D-III) reopened. In the academic year 2009/2010 Madya Expert Education Program (D-III) began to receive new students who joined in Vocational Program Universitas Brawijaya. Since July 7, 1996 Faculty of Fisheries Universitas Brawijaya is set to have one department and five study programs through the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Ministry of Education and Culture no. 251 / DIKTUKEP / 1996, as follows:

In 2001, with the Ministry of National Education’s Decree , Director General of Higher Education. 2534 / D / T / 2001 dated August 2, 2001, Faculty of Fisheries Got permission to conduct a Strata 2 (S-2) educational program under the name of Aquaculture Study Program.

In further development, based on the Letter of Post Graduate of Universitas Brawijaya No. 692 / SK / 2006 on Guidance of UB Graduate Program Implementation and Decree of Rector of Universitas Brawijaya no. 692 / SK / 2006 on the Implementation of Post Graduate Program Universitas Brawijaya diverted to the Faculty, starting from the academic year 2006/2007 the implementation of the Master Program of Aquaculture is handled by the Faculty of Fisheries Universitas Brawijaya. The National Accreditation Board (BAN) has continuously assessed and accredited courses in the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. The results of BAN accreditation are as follows:

Along with the increasing need to produce professional graduates in applying the principles of exploration, exploitation and management of fishery and marine resources, since 2 October 2006 the Department Utilization of Fisheries and Marine Resources (PSPK). The establishment of this PSPK is based on the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 226 / D / O / 2006. With the establishment of Department of Fishery and Marine Resources Utilization (PSPK) and Marine Studies program and based on the Decree of Rector of Universitas Brawijaya Malang. 041 / SK / 2008, the Faculty of Fisheries was renamed the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK).

Then based on the Decree of Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education Republic of Indonesia No. 942 / D / T / 2008 dated March 31, 2008 and Decree of Rector of UB No. 092 / SK / 2008 dated April 10, 2008, was formed Department of Fisheries and Marine Social Economics Faculty of Fisheries Universitas Brawijaya. With the formation of this new department then the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science has 3 (three) departments are:

By the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya dated February 27, 2006 number: 30 / SK / 2006 gradually the management of Post Graduate Universitas Brawijaya returned to the Faculty respectively according to the field of study. Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Brawijaya University began to open new student registration Doctoral Program of Fisheries and Marine Sciences in the odd semester of 2008/2009 with permission from UB Rector on 22 April 2008 number 1357 / J10 / AK / 2008 and strengthened the Directorate General of Higher Education : 69 / D / T / 2009 dated January 2, 2009 on the Implementation Permit for New Study Program of Universitas Brawijaya.
