STELLA Workshop for Fisheries Modelling

Fisheries modelling are important in sustainable fisheries management. Sunoko (2014) states that Indonesia is the largest tuna producer in the world, but the trade quota that belongs to the IOTC is very small, because Indonesia has weaknesses in terms of lack of data and also the issue of sustainability of catches. On the other hand, economic values, ecology and social acceptance are the basic components that make the basis of policy in fisheries management activities, especially capture fisheries. This was revealed by Dr. DGR Wiad, M.Sc as the main facilitator of STELLA-based Fisheries Modeling workshop activities, held by the Imfisher (Indonesian Marine Fisheries) Research Group, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. As is known, STELLA is a programming language that is widely used to model dynamic systems, including fisheries resources.

This workshop was held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the 8th Meeting Room, Main Building of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya. The activity was attended by 32 participants consisting of lecturers and students. The instructors in the workshop included Dr. Ir. DGR. Wiadnya, M.Sc., Arief Setyanto, S.Pi., M.App.Sc., M. Arif Rahman, S.Pi., M.App.Sc. and Arief Darmawan, S.Si., M.Sc. The workshop is expected to provide participants with technical skills to provide tools for developing modeling fisheries as well as a form of contribution in preparing superior human resources to improve fisheries management in Indonesia.
