As part of its internationalization efforts, the Marine Science Study Program of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FFMS UB) continues to strengthen collaboration with global partners. One of the important steps in this effort is the development of a joint curriculum with the Marine Science Program of the Faculty of Science and Marine Environment (FSME) Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).

Through the 2024 Universitas Brawijaya “Dosen Berkarya” program, a team from the UB Marine Science Study Program visited FSME UMT on August 5-10, 2024 to discuss the collaborative curriculum development design in an event entitled ” International Academic Collaboration and Curriculum Development .”

The meeting was attended by five lecturers from UB’s Marine Science Study Program led by Defri Yona, Ph.D., and the UMT FSME team led by As.Prof. Chm. Dr. Ong Meng Chuan. Dr. Ong said that UMT FSME welcomed the initiation of cooperation with UB’s Marine Science Study Program. One of the activities that can be implemented is student exchange through the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) scheme. The implementation of this program can begin in 2026.

Defri Yona, Ph.D., as the secretary of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources (PSPK) and the head of the Dosen Berkarya Team, hopes that this program can be realized soon and provide international experience for UB Marine Science students. “As an initial step, starting in the odd semester of 2024, several courses in the Marine Science Study Program will present lecturers from UMT as guest lecturers. In addition, several lecturers from the UB Marine Science Study Program will also have the opportunity to fill lecture sessions for UMT FSME students,” he explained.

Both institutions have agreed to develop several strategic partnerships, including joint teaching, joint supervision for students, and research and publication collaboration. One of the programs to be implemented is student exchange through the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) scheme, which is planned to start in 2026.
